Since the home media release of Thor back in 2011, Marvel has included the One-Shot short films as part of the Blu-Ray/DVD bonus content (sorry single DVD buyers, you’ll have to find them on YouTube). The stories have been everything from fun little vignettes (Coulson kicking ass in a gas station), revelatory epilogues (the reveal of a real Mandarin in All Hail the Chief) or even an inadvertent backdoor pilot (Agent Carter). However, you’ll have to wait until the Guardians of the Galaxy home release (or even later) for the next one.
Originally reported by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel has decided not to include a One-Shot on the Captain America: The Winter Soldier Blu-Ray/DVD when it hits stores September 9. There’s no word yet on why they’ve excluded one, although according to EW, Marvel executives have said in the past that “they might bring a temporary halt to the One-Shots if they didn’t have a strong story idea or their full focus was needed on the feature film pipeline.”
Here is the list of the bonus content that will be available:
Digital 3D, HD, & SD*, 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray bonus materials include:
-Making-of Featurettes
-Audio Commentary
-Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes
-Bloopers
-And More
*Digital bonus offerings will vary per retailer
1-Disc DVD bonus materials inclue:
-Making-of Featurette
-Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scene
While disappointing, this is certainly not a deal breaker for anyone wanting to own the movie. People will buy Captain America: The Winter Soldier to re-watch the political mystery and non-stop action countless times, not solely for the 5-10 minute film. It’s somewhat understandable that they’re skipping out considering all the movies and series they’re working on, but Marvel is definitely missing an opportunity here.
Although most of the One-Shots have dealt with characters from other movies, a Winter Soldier One-Shot would have been a good way to revisit one of the characters from the film. It could have been anything from Falcon repairing his wings, Bucky wandering the U.S. trying to figure out who he is, more time with Agent 13, or just telling us what the hell Hawkeye was up to while Hydra was blowing everything up!
Oh well, maybe Guardians of the Galaxy will have us covered next time.
