Mandalorians And Sith Witches Are STAR WARS EPISODE VII Bad Guys?

Last week we reported on how the villains for Star Wars Episode VII were supposedly “Jedi Hunters,” a group of black and chrome uniformed Sith worshippers who were responsible for the New Republic never forming after Return of the Jedi. It was a cool concept, as long as none of them were eventually taken over by a Sith spirit. However, new  information has been released that either throws a wrench into the Hunters angle or separates the concept in two.

Latino Review is reporting that the Mandalorians will “make a big appearance” in Episode VII antagonizing the Jedi heroes. For the more causal Star Wars fans out there, the Mandalorians are a culture of warriors consisting of different species, many of whom become mercenaries. While not always bad guys, they have frequently fought the Jedi in the past. The most recognizable Mandalorians are your favorite T-helmet-wearing bounty hunters Boba and Jango Fett (although neither were Mandalorian-born), and one of the main characters in Star Wars Rebels will be a Mandalorian named Sabine Wren. Who else is placing bets that Gwendoline Christie belongs to this group?

Now, I have not read many Expanded Universe stories, nor did I watch The Clone Wars, but even I know that Mandalorians are serious badasses. If our protagonists have to go up against these guys, they’re going to have to be well-prepared. The Force won’t be enough to give them an advantage. While the hardcore fans may be sick of seeing them after all the stories they’ve been featured in, these mercenaries will be likely be a big draw for the general audience.

LR also reported that the movie will feature at least one “Sith Witch.” No other details on that front, but this sounds remarkably similar to the Nightsisters, a sect of the Witches of Dathomir, from The Clone Wars. These witches delve into the more magical areas of the Dark Side. Yes, there are more magical things than being able to levitate objects and shoot lightning from your hands.

Like I said earlier, if the Mandalorians and Sith Witches are appearing in Episode VII, it sounds like the Jedi Hunters are being split into two groups. The Mandalorians will be the hunters/mercenaries, while the Witches will be the group worshipping the Sith. Whether they’re working in tandem is unclear, but regardless, both Force users and ruthless mercenaries as bad guys will be hell for our heroes.
