MAN OF STEEL Sequel Officially Titled BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

The days of calling the Man of Steel sequel titles like Batman Vs. Superman, World’s Finest or Justice League 0.5 are over. Warner Bros. has finally revealed the team-up movie’s official title: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. With the title came the launch of the movie’s website, although there’s nothing there other than the new logo they’ve created. Nothing substantial will probably be on there until next year. It was also announced that principal photography has officially begun in Detroit.

If this isn’t clear indication that this is a Justice League prologue, I don’t know what is. It was already obvious that this film wouldn’t be a direct Man of Steel sequel after Batman and Wonder Woman were added on. Sure, Superman has an important role, but this movie has turned into more of an ensemble piece. However, just look at that subtitle: Dawn of Justice. The only way it could be more clear if they called the movie Hey Guys, This Sets Up Justice League. This is giving more credit to the rumors that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is being filmed back-to-back with Justice League. This film sets it all up, and 2017 is the year for the big team-up. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

I was hoping for the film to keep the Man of Steel brand in the title, like Man of Steel: World’s Finest. That way Superman could be kept as the main focus while still acknowledging that this is a team-up between two of the most famous superheroes of all time. However, the general audience doesn’t know the history surrounding World’s Finest, so it has to be made clear that Batman is in this movie. Plus, Warner Bros. has to make sure that the general audience knows that this is setting up Justice League. So while it’s not the ideal title, it’s a good fit.

Of course, they could have at least done us the courtesy of putting Superman’s name first.
