Joss Whedon Wants Katee Sackhoff As New Lady THOR

Huh… not a bad choice at all.

Joss Whedon, the director of The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, took to the world wide interwebs in support of Marvel comics brand new Thor (she’s a lady, by the way). As a long time proponent for well written female roles, Whedon should naturally L.O.V.E. this new boob-armored God of Thunder, but he went a little further then I expected. Indulging in a little bit of fan-casting, as he’s wont to do, Whedon suggested (or ,rather, implied) one actress for the Lady Thor gig.

Katee Sackhoff. That’s right, Starbuck from Battlestar Gallactica has been nominated by the King of Fanboys (and Fangirls) as our new God of Thunder. And I’m totally alright with it.

Although, Katee Sackhoff would probably portray a better Captain Marvel than Thor. She’s got the right looks, the perfect ‘badass soldier’ pedigree, and the viciousness to pull of that character. Marvel Studios has already discussed an unnamed role with the actress, and even though our fan castings aren’t always realized, I think a Sackhoff Captain Marvel could still be in the works.

She was BORN for the part. Just take a look at this fan art below. She’s just too damn perfect of an actress to pass up. Get your act together, Marvel!!!

Heyo. I'm Nick Dourian, the Editor-In-Chief around these parts. Now, I went to a few other sites, read a few awesome bios, and I really want to fabricate a badass origins story for myself, but I'm feeling particularly unimaginative today, so 'f' that jazz. I read comics, drink bourbon, and cook meats. Imagine Ron Swanson, but with a fuller beard and cuter eyes.

I didn’t think Joss’ tweet was suggesting Katie as the female Thor, just showing her as evidence for remaking a male character into a female one (Starbuck) could be successful.

    • jezeuskrishna

I wonder when they’re going to make the mohammed cartoon series and turn mohammed into a girl? oh wait they’d get bombed, threatened, called islamophobes and bigots but it’s totally fine to take a 4000 year old indo-european god and turn him into a woman. Thor did transform into a woman in one story with the help of Loki to get his hammer back but that’s not even comparable to Thor actually being a woman.

      • MikeDH

I like how you jumped to the straight-up bigoted response without going out to find the full story.

*SPOILERS* Thor’s been pulling some shit with his brother and he’s about to get a karmic slapdown and labelled unworthy to wield Mjolnir. Thus, while he’s working his way out of the slag pit he’s gotten himself into, the hammer has sought a new wielder who is worthy to possess the power. That wielder happens to be a woman. No sex-change to the 4000-year-old god. */SPOILERS*

So, perhaps consider doing the tiniest amount of research *before* you go making generalizations and getting indignant for a whole lot of nothing.

      • erikpandimensional

What the fuck has any of this got to do with Islam? Find a racist site to post on for god’s sake and spare all of us, no-one cares.

      • Gill Rockatansky

I did consider taking some time and thought to reply to your idiotic bigotry, but I can be easily sum it up in the following 5 words:

        Fuck up, you cunting arsehole.

    • el

      Then why not her? 😛

    • Chrisfarfan

Thank you! I keep seeing stupid headlines and articles saying he was suggesting her when he was just trying to make a point.

  • thetruthisinevitable

My own personal nomination for the next wielder of Mjolnir…… JOSS WHEDON’S FOREHEAD. Look at that thing! It’s just crying out for a chance at world domination!

  • Gill Rockatansky

He wasn’t endorsing her to play Thor, he was highlighting the fact that a well known and much loved male character could easily be changed to a female character. They’re not the same thing. I’m pretty sure Marvel will be sticking with the characters they have in the films to maintain continuity. I doubt we’ll be getting a cinematic reboot of Thor before the new comic has even had time to establish itself. Way to misread something that’s less than 140 characters.

    • Gill Rockatansky

Also, it isn’t Lady Thor, it is just Thor.

      • Unleash The Fanboy

Yeah, yeah, i Get what you’re saying, Thor is still going to have his own ongoing series, so how should I differentiate them?

        • Houston Lang

          “Dude Thor.”

          • Veraxus

Dude Thor is the de-facto Thor, ergo it is Lady Thor that should be specifically differentiated.

Also, Lady Thor is a terrible idea. You can change the sex or gender of just about any major superhero… but Thor is one of the few that just doesn’t work. Personally, I’d rather see a female Toni Stark (the spelling change was intentional ;-).

          • Gill Rockatansky

“Lady Thor” is the new Thor, replacing “Dude Thor” and taking his role, so no differentiation required.

          • tim davids

Yeah, like that Frog was definitely a dude.

          • The Occupant

It’s not like he didn’t do *drag* in the original myth.
I think they may even have adapted it in the comic at some point.

          • Sangreaal

        • Gill Rockatansky

I don’t think you do get what I’m saying. He isn’t going to have his own ongoing series, so no need to differentiate.

“this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”

          Taken from

          • Unleash The Fanboy

I am well aware of that. Did you see Disgraced Thor? The male one who still exists in the comics and will be travelling around the Marvel Universe still? What is he then? Thor was his birht name, and while I think it’s admirable of Marvel to say “This is Thor!!!” for their new heroine, it doesn’t resolve the fact that Thor, the male god we’ve read about for so long, is still in the universe. He was Thor from birth, but what’s his name now? In your opinion?

          • Gill Rockatansky

Thor. Same rules as Doctor Who.

          • Unleash The Fanboy

But they’re alive in the same universe right now. The male Thor is roaming around trying to redeem himself. If I write a news post about them both, how do I differentiate between the male Thor and the new/lady Thor

          • Gill Rockatansky

The Artist Formerly Known As Thor. 😉

I’m sure Marvel will have considered this and some way to differentiate them will be written in, especially as Thor has lived under a pseudonym quite a few times. Or there’s the fact that one would be Thor Odinson and the other may be Thor Odinsdottir.

  • Jen

Katee Sackhoff as Captain Marvel tho. SO MUCH YES.

  • Tempest

Yeah, no. He wasn’t suggesting casting at all. As previously said, he was noting how beloved a character can be even when switching from male to female.

  • Vamroc M Sylar

BSG alum Tricia Helfer is my preferred choice not to take anything away from Sackhoff but Tricia just fills out the costume better, is a more imposing presence with some weight training, and Tricia already leaves men THUNDERSTRUCK wherever she goes HAHAHA.

  • Bohemian

I would rather see Katee as ANY character over ANY dude !

  • Kevin Richards

    then…should read ” …went a little further than I expected…” 🙂

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

She could hammer me any day. 😉

  • VirgilHawkins

I can only see her as Captain Marvel.

Also, i don’t read much of Thor comics, but is there a reason Thor will be a woman now? I don’t really see the point when there are already strong Asgardian female characters that could use their own series, like Valkyrie and Lady Sif.

    • Marcell Hines

Both already had their own series, 2 in sifs case. Anyway, there’s also Thor Girl, maybe she’s finally stepping up.

    • MikeDH

Answering your question with a spoiler tag:

*SPOILERS* Thor’s been pulling some shit with Loki and it’s sorta tarnishing his reputation. He’s going to be slapped down and cast as unworthy to wield Mjolnir. While he’s off redeeming himself, the hammer needs a wielder and it will find one who is worthy and without a pesky X chromosome.*/SPOILERS*

      Hope that helps. 🙂

  • SentinelOptimusCunt

White cap America, black cap America not long before gay cap America fighting off his Stiffy for a rebooted Gay red skull, same with Thor in the future, Gay Thor fighting his stiffy for Loki. all the fuckin same..

  • Jerry Jackson

    Katee Sackhoff as Captain Marvel.

Gwendoline Christie, Margot Robbie, or Ronda Rousey as Female Thor if you HAD to do it.

  • Dringle

Looking at the shape of Whedon’s cranium, I vote for him to play The Leader.

  • Mancave Heywood

Sorry but that is just GAY and I’m so tired of retard movie producers tearing apart storylines and characters in comics. Have her play She Hulk or something but don’t change what is already perfect!

  • Jonathan Hall

I want her to star as Outlaw Josey Wales.

  • jezeuskrishna

Hollywood hates the idea of having a macho male protagonist, it’s “dangerous” and “antiquated” like the male sex itself. Soon they’ll cancel everything that promotes men being men, except of course fighting for the army, we still need you to kill people for the military industrial complex but you can be a 90 pound emasculated many boy and still fire one of Matel’s M16’s, they just don’t want strong males walking around the streets and reproducing, especially not white males and only white males will look up to an Icon/God like Thor and want to be him. White males are now designed by our social engineers(bankers, media masters from the middle east) to be Michael Cera’s with the mind of Woody Allen.

    • Republicannt

      What a dbag

    • el

well, a Michael Cera with the mind of Woody Allen is AWSOME! But I think you’re exagerating a little bit here. It’s just fantasy and fantasy can go where it wants. And it’s just trend, it comes and goes. There are a lot of men heroes out there, it’s not true what you say and you know it. And nothing changes what a man can be or an original comic book hero is since the beginning.. It’s just renewing something, reinventing. Next BSG movie Starbuck will be a man again. Do you think we women complain about that? WHO CARES?

  • TDHawkes

    YES. YES. YES.

  • Schmoes Know

Awesome although Whedon wasn’t nominating her. He was simply telling people to calm down about Thor being a woman. Last time they changed a character from man to woman, it turned out ok. (Starbuck)

  • ctdfalconer

No…no…no.. and more no. I don not want a female Thor. I did not want a frog Thor.

  • MattCBC

Hes referring to her BSG character Starbuck. For a website that reports on nerd culture you think they would no this…..

  • zmster

Actually, he didn’t suggest KS for the role. He was simply making a point that there was initially fan outrage with the gender reversal of Starbuck, also.

  • dugtook

totally stupid idea for a female thor. thor is the SON of odin, BROTHER of loki. lets just make up a big gay thor that prances around in womens clothes and hits on guys maybe takes them to the “rainbow” bridge!!! enough p.c. crap, people!!!!

  • Duh

We guys already go see these movies for the action, the fact that Marvel has casted ripped dudes to play these characters has drawn women to be more willing to go see and like them as well. They aren’t recasting Thor as a woman anytime soon! It’s all about the $$$$! Marvel has a money machine rolling right now, they aren’t messing with that formula!

  • Optimus Prime

    ¡¡¡Cool!!!. …¡¡¡Female Thor!!!
