Josh Trank Directing Either HAN SOLO or LUKE SKYWALKER Movie

Ooooh, this Star Wars news is geting better and better. Not only have we endured a deluge of delicious photo leaks from the set of J. J. Abrams’s Star Wars Episode 7, but we now know two (that’s right TWO) directors for the upcoming spinoff films. Gareth Edwards, now known for his kaiju reboot Godzilla, was revealed as the first director last week. Now Josh Trank, director of Chrnoicle and the upcoming Fantastic Four relaunch, has join the mix as the second maestro.

This is AMAZING news, but there’s actually a bit more to it. A few weeks ago at a industry convention a corporate document leaked the titles of these Star Wars spinoffs. We already guessed a few of these flicks, but one of them was a distinct surprise. From that sheet, we strongly believe Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Luke Skywalker will star in these films. As Edwards is the favorite for the Fett solo movie, Trank must be responsible for either the Han Solo movie or the Luke Skywalker movie.

Here’s the official news from the folks at LucasFilms:

OFFICIAL STAR WARS PRESS RELEASE
In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney continue development of multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. The newest director to come on board is Josh Trank.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Trank states, “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

Trank captured imaginations worldwide with his critically lauded directorial debut Chronicle, a fresh and engaging take on the superhero genre. Trank is currently at work on The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox.
