JOE QUESADA Thinks War Criminals Are Heroes

In comments made on the Kevin Smith podcast show, Fatman on Batman, Marvel Entertainment’s very own Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada expressed his feelings about Man of Steel saying that “Zod was the hero of the movie to me”.

General Zod, the villain of Man of Steel, also known as the genocidal mass murdering war criminal who attempted to overthrow the ruling body of Krypton in a bloody military coup who also wanted to use  the Kryptonian Codex to selectively choose which Kryptonian genetic trait lines and gene pools are worthy of saving.

But maybe we should just call him what he is – the Kryptonian Hitler.

Joe Quesada

However, Unleash The Fanboy may be mistaken – Joe Quesada’s comments may have been taken out of context, so let’s take a look at the full transcript:

“He [Zod] wanted to save his race, and Superman didn’t let him. Zod, in this particular incarnation, struck me as not necessarily an evil man, but a man of…he had a particular…he had his orders, he had a mission. He was a zealot of sorts …again, correct me if I’m wrong… but he didn’t say, ‘I want to rebuild Krypton, and then come back and destroy this little planet. All I want is to rebuild this planet. And the only reason I’m blowing everything to bits here is because you’ve got what I want, and you’re not giving it to me. So please, give me my people, and I’ll leave.”

Okay, this doesn’t look good. But maybe if we take each individual statement it will start to look better for Joe Quesada.

Zod wanted to save his race, and Superman didn’t let him.

Save his race? They were fine! They didn’t need to try to blow up an entire planet. Why couldn’t they live in peace? Superman didn’t let him save his race? Zod was killing millions of people!

Zod… struck me as not necessarily an evil man.

He deliberately turned on the World Engine knowing that it would lead to the death of millions of people! He killed other Kryptonians who got in his way!

He had his orders, he had a mission.

General Zod was a total authoritarian dictator!

He was a zealot of sorts.

Okay, we give up.

He didn’t say, ‘I want to rebuild Krypton, and then come back and destroy this little planet.

No, he didn’t need to come back to Earth, he was building Krypton on top of Earth. To rebuild Krypton is to destroy Earth. Did this guy even watch the movie?

The only reason I’m blowing everything to bits here is because you’ve got what I want, and you’re not giving it to me.

Like what happened to more than half of Europe? I can’t. I just can’t.

Please, give me my people, and I’ll leave.

He wasn’t leaving, he was colonizing the Earth! Not just colonizing, but getting rid of the entire indigenous population to make room for his specially selected Kryptonians that he deems perfect.

One really has to wonder what Quesada is doing working in an industry that’s supposedly all about heroism, truth, justice and freedom when he thinks racist, xenophobic, mass murdering, genocidal war criminals like General Zod are heroes.
