The Greatest GAME OF THRONES Swordsman Is Joining STAR WARS EPISODE VII

The former first sword of Braavos will soon be visiting a galaxy far, far away. The BBC is reporting that Miltos Yerolemou, who played Syrio Forel in the first season of Game of Thrones, has joined the cast of Star Wars Episode VII. This casting announcement comes soon after production on Episode VII resumed at Pinewood Studios in London after a two week hiatus. He is the second Game of Thrones actor to be cast in the film after Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth. Fans of the HBO show will remember Forel as Arya Stark’s sword fighting…sorry, her “water dancing” instructor. Now, some of you might take issue with my headline considering (spoilers) Forel was killed, but if he had had an actual sword, he would have destroyed Ser Meryn Trant! I’m just saying.

Like most of the actors cast in Star Wars Episode VII, we don’t know who Yerolemou is playing, although the BBC report states that his character “not thought to be a major one.” That being said, it’s a good bet that he’ll wield a lightsaber since the actor really is an accomplished swordsman. To not utilize these talents would be a complete waste. The only thing worse than that is if Pip Andersen, the parkour practitioner who was brought aboard in July, isn’t using his athletic prowess for the film, and is instead stuck behind a desk. Unacceptable!

Now, assuming he will use a lightsaber, the question now is whether Yerolemou will be a Jedi or Dark Side user, Sith or otherwise. On the one hand, it would be good to see an experienced older Jedi other than Luke. On the other hand, if certain rumors are to be believed, we might have several of these tentatively named “Inqusitors” running around, so perhaps he’ll take on a villainous role. Either way, I hope his character doesn’t get killed off too quickly. After all, what you say to the God of Death in Star Wars is the same as it is in Game of Thrones: “Not today.” Then again, Force users are much more combat-adept than Meryn Trant, so his chances of survival actually be worse.

In the meantime, check out this video for a better idea of what it will be like seeing Yerolemou in the Star Wars universe. J.J., I expect you to consult this.
