Elodie Yung Will Play Elektra in Marvel’s DAREDEVIL

Though not appearing at Comic Con this year, Marvel’s Daredevil is still making big announcements for its upcoming second season. It seems that Matt Murdock’s love/enemy Elektra will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the series next year. Marvel has just announced that the iconic assassin will be played by G.I. Joe: Retaliation and District 13: Ultimatum star Elodie Yung! For those of you scratching their heads, Elektra Natchios was created by Frank Miller and made her comic book debut in Daredevil #168. Over the years, she has been portrayed as one of Matt Murdock’s most complicated love interests, which is saying a lot if you look up the character’s relationship history. Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, had this to say about their casting choice:

After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity. Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

Well said Mr. Loeb. Yung’s Cambodian and French features will definitely help to showcase the exotic look of the usually Greek Elektra, while her fighting skills shown in District 13 and G.I. Joe (where she fought Snake Eyes in an all red outfit by the way) will be more than a match for the newly costumed Daredevil. Elektra was mentioned in a flashback scene on Daredevil simply as ‘the Greek girl that didn’t work out’. Considering Elektra’s role in Daredevil: The Man Without Fear (which the series is heavily influenced by), we can expect to see a few flashback episodes dedicated to their budding college romance and what set her down her dark path.
