DONALD GLOVER Is The Newest Spider-Man

Donald Glover, aka “The dude who compelled Brian Michael Bendis to create a Black-Rican Spider-Man”, is our newest Spidey. The rapper/actor/poet/model/whatever-else will star in an upcoming episode of Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. Not quite the silver screen adventure that we few Morales fans desire, but good enough for me.

Check out a sneak peek of the episode below:

As Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed at the box office, I wonder if we’ll see Miles in a feature length film sooner rather than later? He’s a fun, young character with far less baggage than Peter Parker. His race would provide a platform for ample marketing. ‘Oh my God! The new Spider-Man’s Black! Or Hispanic! Or whatever!” While the character’s creation is an obvious marketing ploy by Marvel, as even creator Brian Michael Bendis has admitted, Miles is definitely a keeper.

Too bad Donald Glover is old as f*ck. Well, not THAT old, but definitely too wearied to star as a live screen version of our 13 year old Spider-Man. That’s when Miles first inherited the mantle from Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe. Glover will soon celebrate his 31st birthday, and with at least 3 years until the next Spidey flick, Glover would sooner portray Morales’s father than the hero himself.

Of all the likely candidates for the role, I’d love for Miles’s Puerto Rican heritage to shine through. Choose a Nuyorican actor or an island native for the role. Ismael Cruz Cordova comes to mind.

To catch Donald Glover as MY favorite Spider-Man, head on over to Disney XD on (9 a.m. ET/PT). Although, now that I’ve read a bit more about the official air date, Miles Morales won’t appear until 2015. The wait’s gonna be a killer!
