Digimon Fusion to Air on Nickelodeon!

Yup, you read that header right! Digimon Fusion, the sixth Digimon anime series, will make its North American television debut on the Nickelodeon Channel! An exact date hasn’t been given yet, but Saban Brands released this press release:

Digimon Fusion is the all-new animated series and sixth installment of the Digimon franchise, the longest-running Japanese anime property. The series will feature all-new Digimon action and excitement following Mikey, a human boy, who is transported into the digital realm and must team up with his new “Digimon” or “Digital Monster” friends before their world is deleted once and for all. New fusion powers allow Digimon to combine and fuse their abilities to create endless battle possibilities.

Digimon Fusion, or more well known by the Japanese name, Digimon Xros Wars, aired in Japan 2010 to 2011. The anime, like all previous Digimon media, was animated by Toei Animation (Dragon Ball Z, One Piece). The anime was directed by Tetsuya Endo, and the music was composed by Kousuke Yamashita (Chihayafuru), although reportedly, the dub will be adding new music.

The Digimon franchise is rather large in Japan, with over 5 anime series, over 7 films, tons of video games and manga, trading cards, etc. Digimon Xros Wars alone has already spawned an arcade game, a DS game, and a manga series that ran in V-Jump. The previous Digimon series are Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier, and Digimon Savers.

While I approve this news, I’m also surprised that this will be airing on the main Nickelodeon Channel. Usually, action/anime series air on the spin-off channel, Nicktoons Network (Wolverine & the X-Men, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball GT, Huntik, Monsuno, Power Rangers, etc). I guess they really expect good ratings from Digimon!
