Carol Danvers Won’t Be Appearing In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

Carol Danvers may be hanging out with the Guardians of the Galaxy in the Marvel books right now, but don’t expect her to keep the same company in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the DragonCon in Atlanta, director James Gunn was asked whether he could be incorporating any female superheroes into Guardians of the Galaxy 2, specifically Danvers in her Captain Marvel identity. While Gunn did state there were plans to bring more female characters into the Guardians world, Gunn wants to avoid adding any “earthlings,” preferring to have Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, to be the main focus from Earth. However, he also said that he believes Danvers will be showing up in Marvel movies “sooner rather than later.”

Ms-Marvel

Damn, first he “delicately” says Hulk won’t show up in the sequel, and now Captain Marvel? Gunn is really keen on keeping the Guardians separate from the Earth characters…for now. Honestly though, this isn’t surprising about Danvers. Recent reports suggest that she’ll be introduced either in Avengers: Age of Ultron or her own movie. However, don’t be quick to exclude any extraterrestrial elements with her own film. After all, her comic book origin is tied in with the Kree, so that could be another connecting point between Earth and the grander cosmic Marvel universe in the movies. In fact, I’d be quite surprised if there weren’t any alien elements in a Captain Marvel movie.

Perhaps we'll see the original Captain Marvel involved in her origin?

With the MCU gearing up towards an epic battle with Thanos, many fans have speculated whether the Guardians of the Galaxy will team up with The Avengers to fight the Mad Titan. If that happens, and if Danvers has become one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it would be terrific to see her fight alongside her comic book counterpart’s current teammates.

It's a shame we'll never see the black-suited guy with the Guardians...at all!
