Capcom’s BLUE BOMBER Returns to DVD!

Anime distributor Discotek Media has announced that they will be releasing the classic 1994 Mega Man television series on DVD. All 27 episodes will be released in a single set early 2014. While Mega Man technically isn’t an anime, unlike most of Discotek’s products, it is a Japanese-American co-production, so I guess it still fits the bill.

Mega Man originally aired for two seasons before being canceled due to budget concerns. Ratings were reportedly very high, however.

ADV Films previously released Mega Man on DVD twice before going under.

In all honesty, Mega Man is a pretty bad show. Yes, it has its fans from the old days, but if you want an honest, un-nostalgic opinion, here it is: Mega Man has really bad writing, really annoying characters, and the voice acting is only passable. Dr. Wily’s evil plans are only a bit better than some of the plans in the old G.I. Joe cartoons! The animation is surprisingly good, though. In fact, I’m assuming that Discotek only got this to cash in on E3, while people are still in a Mega Man mood!

Despite all this, I plan on buying this. You might be wondering, “Why buy a DVD for a show that you don’t care for?” Because, if this sells well, Discotek might release more Mega Man products on DVD. The Mega Man: Upon a Star OVA, or dare I hope, the Rockman EXE. and/or Star Force anime series!

So…think you’ll buy this, or give it a Mega-pass?
