ARROW Wants Harley Quinn For Suicide Squad, But DC Has Other Plans

Andrew Kreisberg producer on Arrow told Comic Book Resources not to expect more of Harely Quinn this season. While she had the tiniest of cameo’s in season two’s Suicide Squad episode, DC didn’t even really want that happening. Andrew Kreisberg said,

“There are very few things we’ve asked DC Comics for that we haven’t gotten. That was something you asked for, and what you saw is a compromise that Geoff Johns and I came up with. To even get that much was a thrill for us. I know that they may have other plans for her, but it was certainly an Easter egg that thrilled us. But the Suicide Squad will definitely be back. Whether we see the ‘deranged female killer’ we saw before, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Other plans? I’m skeptical we’ll see a live action Harley Quinn anytime soon. Though the way DC seems to be cramming every character in the company’s history into Batman vs Superman that would be my guess where we’ll see her next. The longer DC teases the character the more they run the risk of disappointment when she does finally reveal herself. One plus for a live action version is that hopefully we’ll see a costume that is practical enough for the actress to move normally. I’d like to see the classic version, though I know that is wishful thinking.

If DC asked my input on Harley I’d tell them to translate the current Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti into a late night cartoon. It would translate perfectly and could even expand the fan base if it was paired with someone akin to Rick and Morty or Archer. But then again DC hasn’t called me yet.

    That would rather obviously pre-date Arrow, though, and AIUI, Constantine will be in yet another ‘verse…Honestly, DC is taking the stupidest possible route, with its cinematic universe, because they can’t afford to have even one movie in it that isn’t a solid-gold hit, at this point, and the one movie that’s in it only seems to be well-liked by people who watched it with very low expectations, or are simply easy-to-please. They could solve a lot of issues, by simply including their live TV line-up, but no, they’d rather do it the hard way, and let Marvel get two more movies further ahead, in addition to at least one season apiece of AoS and Agent Carter, as well as at least one Netflix series.
    
    I’d love it, if they could provide Marvel with some actual competition for the MCU, but instead, they’re echoing their own play from the ’70’s, back when they first woke up, realised Marvel was doing something interesting and exciting with their comics, and decided to try to copy what the House of M was doing, before realising, some two decades plus too late, that they actually had no idea what coherent stories (involving more than one issue, or more than one title, never mind *both*) they could reasonably tell. The only “bright” side is that, this time, they don’t need to bother with a “Crisis” storyline, unless they really feel like going there; beyond that, every movie in the DCCU is going to have a gimpy leg, compared to the MCU, because Marvel’s trailblazing, while DC is slowly realising they have only two cinematic success stories, neither of which have any major hits in the current cinematic canon. It’s a pity, because it just doesn’t have to be that way. It’s not like Arrow and The Flash have to tie in to the movies in exactly the same way as AOS has been doing — DC can do their own thing, without having to repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot to prove how they aren’t *really* copying Marvel. They have some decent stories they could tell, if they really opened things up, but they seem to lack guts.
    
    As it is, I could see Marvel Entertainment wind up becoming independent from Disney (or _owning_ it…), then swallowing up both DC and Warner Bros. (possibly even the parent company), as well as Sony, simply because both of the latter are fumbling their respective balls (in every possible sense, for that matter), and are likely to end up ripe for hostile takeover, while Ike Perlmutter’s baby is growing into its sobriquet of “Mighty Marvel.” After that, you’d no doubt see the DCCU given a chance to truly strut its stuff (not to mention the DCU), but no longer as *competition* for Marvel, as such.
