AGENTS OF SHIELD Debuts Most High Profile Villain Yet

As Agents of SHIELD sets to return this fall, we have been inundated with announcements of guest star after guest star.  But we’re surely not complaining, are we?

After the announcement that Lucy Lawless would be playing Agent Isabelle Hartley (who apparently always has a knife at her side?) and Adrianne Palicki would bring to life none other than Hawkeye love interest, Bobbi Morse (Mockingbird), I’d have to say interest has been peaked.  But there’s plenty of room for more as it was announced that TEEN WOLF actor, Brian Patrick Wade would join the cast this season as the shows most vintage, high profile Marvel villain yet.

Wade will be bringing to life one of my personal favorites; Carl ‘CRUSHER’ Creel otherwise known as the Absorbing Man! He was created by Stan ‘THE MAN’ Lee and Jack ‘KING’ Kirby back in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #114 in 1965.  In the comics, Creel has the ability to take on the molecular structure of anything he touches.  The interesting thing is that he got his ability through a potion given to him by Loki himself.  I wonder if they will work Loki into this or rewrite his origin?

Weird side note: the Absorbing Man was principally a Thor villain, but tangled with the Hulk several times. In the 2003 Ang Lee movie, HULK, Banner's father played by Nick Nolte was given similar abilities to Creel.

Marvel has upped the ante on the sophomore season with Creel making his entrance in the season premiere.  Marvel had this to say about his part:

With his ability to absorb the properties of anything he touches, Creel will put Coulson and his team through their paces when their second season kicks off…but you’ll have to wait until then to see how their battle turns out!

This is the shows chance to get the story off and running.  And picking a character like Crusher Creel raises the bar considerably as expectations will be high for such a well known character.

Agents of SHIELD season two premiere is set for Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. est on ABC.
