ADVANCE REVIEW! Zombie Tramp #1

Should anyone buy into this comic book? Read on to find out.

The official description from Action Lab:

The series relaunch previewed with a Free Comic Book Day issue continues here. Join creator Dan Mendoza for the all new adventures of the cult hit series featuring his undead anti-hero, Zombie Tramp, now brought to life by the amazing talents of new superstar artist TMChu. It’s kinky supernatural fun as Zombie Tramp hits the road, starting in… sin city of course!

Zombie Tramp 1_SDCC VariantThe first time I saw an advertisement regarding this franchise I had no idea what to think. Here’s a main character that uses her sex appeal to lure victims and rip right into them. But it turns out not to be a horror book or an overtly obvious sexual escapade meant to get young males to buy in, instead it’s a fun exploration with a slightly different breed of undead monster.

Dan Mendoza and Jason Martin work together to realize a script with enough meat to garner some attention. One of Hollywood‘s high priced call girls is now a zombie, and we pick up in the midst of her afterlife adventures. With a quick set-up in the middle of nowhere then an eventual, though slightly random, drop off in Las Vegas the authors throw us into a world of depravity. The humor is there while it carries the right amount of spunk to earn the chance to find a dedicated audience.

What really makes this whole vessel worth following is the illustrations by TMChu. From the first page to the final panel the talent supports the source material while providing visual flair. The end result allows this yarn starring the recently deceased Janey Belle to be engaging. I have no complaints as each instance is quirky but restrained enough to never become an eyesore. In short: the renditions found here do their job.

Zombie Tramp #1 may be the current ongoing series but you can tell from this set of shenanigans its gone through some growing pains to get to this point, and the work has absolutely paid off. Recommended.
