5 Rogues That Need To Appear On THE FLASH

The upcoming CW series The Flash  has been amping up viewers for their fall season by revealing different villains that will take their shot at the scarlet speedster.  We already know that characters like Reverse-Flash, Girder, Plastique, Weather Wizard, and Captain Cold have already been announced to appear. They won’t be coming to their battles alone either, as (spoilers) many learned at San Diego Comic-Con last month that the famous villain team The Rogues would assemble on the show and give the Flash a run for his money.

The Flash has easily one of the best rogues galleries in the DC Universe, and superhero comics in general. Of course characters like The Trickster and Mirror Master aren’t as well known outside of comics as Joker or Lex Luthor, but hopefully that will soon change. There are five villains  that I want to see in the series whose distinct abilities and personalities would not only translate well on TV, but would help shape the inexperienced Barry Allen into the hero we all know him as now:

PIED PIPER

Hartley Rathaway was born deaf, but was eventually cured thanks to research funded by his rich parents. He then became obsessed with sound and began experimenting with sonic technology later in life. He eventually learned to control people through sounds and music and became a criminal. In the comics, Piper has fought on both sides of the law, sometimes fighting the Flash alongside the other Rogues, and eventually becoming a vigilante in his own right. He may not possess any superhuman abilities, but his sonic technology and power of mind control would make him one of the more interesting villains on the show. I believe Piper will appear since the CW made it a point to mention that two gay characters would be appearing on the show. As far as I know, there are only two characters in the Flash’s world that fit that description: Piper and David Singh, who is a police captain in Central City (and Rathaway’s boyfriend). Seem like a confirmation to me.

MAGENTA

DC Comics is making an effort to include more and more women intro their shows. On Arrow, we’ve got Felicity Smoak, Amanda Waller (albeit a slimmer and prettier one), China White, Huntress, and Black Canary. The Flash is following the same trend with Iris West, Caitlin Snow (who we’re all hoping becomes Killer Frost), and recently announced adding Plastique to the roster. Female Flash villains are pretty rare, but one that I would love to see is Magenta. With her magnetic powers and varying mental illness, she is like a weird combination of Scarlet Witch and Magneto! That alone would make for a difficult and visually appealing fight, especially in a city. Technically she became a villain when Wally West was The Flash, but CW has taken creative freedoms before and struck gold (case in point, Felicity Smoak).

CAPTAIN BOOMERANG

I’ll admit that I’m a fan of George Harkness aka Captain Boomerang, but he is portrayed more or less as a joke when it comes to rest of The Rogues. I think he would be a good villain to add in the show, but I wouldn’t mind if he got metahuman powers. After DC Comics’ Blackest Night event, Boomer was brought back to life with leaner body (he looked like a troll before his death) and the power to generate energy boomerangs that exploded on contact. Don’t get me wrong, he can still be the cheap and obnoxious jerk we all know and love, but let’s be gracious enough to give him a power upgrade. His appearance on Batman: Assault on Arkham surely piqued a lot of interest and DC should keep that momentum going. Plus with Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke being Australian in this particular universe, it would be interesting if they somehow knew each other before becoming full-fledged super villains.

THE TRICKSTER

Another classic Flash villain, The Trickster is almost too funny not be put into the show. Sure, he wouldn’t be the biggest threat to The Flash if he was put on, but could be the most entertaining. I can definitely see him as a recurring villain that just pops up every now and then to cause trouble. If he ended up with the Rogues, I’d want him to be more than just someone who carries exploding rubber chickens and various other joke themed weapons. I see them as being the group’s data handler and eccentric genius, giving them an edge on pulling heists and providing zany distractions. If he is eventually included, I hope they choose the Axel Walker version instead of the James Jesse version. As much as I’m a believer in sticking to the traditional history of a character, I’d be willing to look the other way for this.

PRE-NEW 52 CAPTAIN COLD

Captain-Cold

If you’ve been paying attention, we already know that Wentworth Miller will be playing Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold. I know the whole premise of this series is the villains will be metahumans, but this is one villain that I especially hope just has tech. One of the best things about Captain Cold is the fact that he’s just a crook with a pair of freeze guns. Giving him ice powers would take that away, just like it did to Mr. Freeze in The Batman. I personally would like to see Snart as one of the small time crooks that The Flash takes down in the early episodes. Because of that, he will swear revenge on the Scarlet Speedster. Later in the series, Caitlin Snow could become Killer Frost and almost kill The Flash in a very public brawl. Flash will obviously win, but it will give Snart the idea to use cold to get his revenge. He would then find a way to acquire his trademark guns and volia! Captain Cold is born!
