WORLD WAR Z Getting Sequel After All

World War Z was set to be the big flop of this Summer. There wasn’t much hype, it wasn’t based off a comic, the trailers didn’t seem to garner much interest, and Brad Pitt isn’t the money-maker that he used to be. That, and zombies aren’t in vogue anymore. And yet, here we are!

The Brad Pitt zombie thriller has been doing shockingly well, earning over $111.8M worldwide in it’s first week on a $190M budget, so the film should earn back it’s budget even later this week. World War Z also has the record for biggest opening for a Brad Pitt film.

Now things get interesting! Originally, there was talk of turning the film into a trilogy, but when the film went through some….developmental difficulties, the plans were scrapped. However, due to the film actually earning those green-backs, Paramount seems to be moving forward with the sequel after all. And if film No. 2 does well, I think a trilogy is a safe bet! I’m not really sure where the plot would go, though…

World War Z, which is loosely based off the novel of the same name by Max Brooks (G.I. Joe: Hearts & Minds) was released in theaters on June 21. The film is directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and is rated PG-13.

So…would you watch a sequel?
