Who Is Jessica Chastain Playing In INTERSTELLAR?

If you’ve been following the many Interstellar articles here on UTF, then you’ll know they’re all written by me – and I’m a very big fan. Honestly, this and Guardians of the Galaxy are my two most anticipated movies of 2014, so I’m scrambling for every little bit of news available on the project to share with you guys. And I’ve come across not one, but two interesting things.

First off, Hans Zimmer has revealed that he is set to score the movie. In an interview with Collider for the Man of Steel press junket, they asked Zimmer whether he would once again collaborate with Nolan on the highly-anticipated space movie and his answer was…

“I wrote something…and I’m writing that.  So, yes, we have started.”

It’s strange that he’s already started writing it, since the movie isn’t out until November next year. While it’s not surprising Zimmer will come back I welcome his return as a huge fan, and I’m sure it’ll be awesome to hear what he has in store for the dark, cold vacuum of space.

Now comes the awesome stuff. Remember those audition tapes of the two little girls for the role of ‘Tina’ we ran a couple of weeks back? No? Well screw you. Anyway, the eagle-eyed nerds over at the Nolan Fans forums spotted on the casting website that represents those two girls some more info on the role they were auditioning for. This confirms the tapes’ legitimacy and fans’ (myself included) theories, and that Chris Nolan has carried over some elements from Jonah’s 2008 draft.

If you haven’t read the leaked draft and want to remain unspoiled then look away now and just bask in the glory that is Hans Zimmer scoring this film, but if you’re keen to find out who Jessica Chastain is probably playing in this movie, read on!

TWO of our child actors, Hannah Chassereau and Taylor Spires, just wrapped up their AUDITION tapes (at our Agency) for their New York Theatrical Agents to submit for a feature film.

Role: The Girl 9 – 12 years old, a young Jessica Chastain-type; honest and sensitive.

So, Tina is described as a “young Jessica Chastain-type”, and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t be described that way unless Chastain was playing her. In the original draft, McConaughey’s Cooper has two sons; Tom, 15, and Murph, 10. Tom barely says two lines however Murph is an intricate part of Cooper’s character and gives the film a very strong human element. We watch Murph grow from a little boy to an old man, and it really was heartbreaking to read.

Some fans had already speculated that Nolan had expanded Murph’s role and changed his gender with Chastain playing her and to those who cracked it, you get a free beer. How it’ll work remains to be seen, since the majority of the second and third acts both take place in space while Murph is still down on Earth.

This is still technically speculation, but with harder evidence than usual, so take this with a grain of salt because there’s still a chance we all could be wrong about this. Anyway, what do you think? Is this who Jessica Chastain is playing in Interstellar? Share your thoughts below.
