Warner Bros. Driving Ahead With Spy Hunter Film Adaption

Warner Bros., seemingly having reached a stand-still at the moment regarding comic book films, has now moved on to…..video game adaptions? Well, maybe not, but they’ll be adapting the Spy Hunter racing/secret agent video game series for the big screen.

Warner Bros. has hired Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) to direct the film, with Carter Blanchard (Glimmer) writing the script for the film. There isn’t a set release date yet.

The Spy Hunter game series began as a 1983 arcade game developed by Bally Midway, later known as Midway Games (Tron, Mortal Kombat) and designed by George Gomez (Tron). The latest game in the series, simply titled Spy Hunter, was released for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS handhelds on October 9, 2012. The game is a reboot of the franchise.

I expect that the film will be a mix of James Bond and Fast and Furious, since the game series usually mixes the spying genre with the racing genre. I haven’t played any of the games, but I’m sure the film will be fun, if done right. On the other hand, the upcoming Need for Speed film might make Spy Hunter obsolete.
