THOR 3 Confirmed

Thor The Dark World Banner

While hitting the press rounds, Chris Hemsworth revealed that he’s signed on with Marvel for at least 2 more Avengers movies and another solo venture, which we’ll tentatively title Thor 3 : Ragnarok’s Return (although I not so secretly hope that Marvel refrains from that trite story cycle).

Here’s Hemsworth’s full statement:

I’ve got three left in my contract – from here on, I have two more Avengers and one more Thor and if people wanted to see more, I’d be happy to keep going. I love these stories and I love this character. The opportunity has opened up everything for me.

As long as THOR: THE DARK WORLD doesn’t bomb at theatres, it sounds like Thor 3 is a sure bet.

Now, Thor is my favorite Avenger by miles, and even though Robert Downey Jr. inspired this entire generation of Marvel Studios flicks, I personally prefer Chris Hemsworth as my “go to” superhero. Although, the blonde haired thespian’s seemed to flip flop on his “I love Marvel” position. In months prior, he along with Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, fought with the House of Ideas, leveraging their power as the “face of the Avengers” in exchange for a higher payday. A point on which I’m conflicted.

On one hand, I think the original cast should’ve honored their contracts and NOT renegotiated. From the sound of it, this was a bit too much like a mob shakedown, where the castmates refused to return unless their demands were met. On the other hand, these thespians were extremely underpaid compared to Robert Downey Jr (who, I’d claim deserves all the money Marvel throws at him), but they were also underpaid when compared to Scarlett Johansson, whose character is the 6th most important character in The Avengers (behind Loki, Iron Man, Cap, Thor, and Hulk). I get it. Marvel wanted to nab a beautiful young lady with a marketable name, but in the context of these face punching flicks, an entire host of actors is more deserving of her wage.

But I guess that’s all behind us.  Hemsworth’s engaged in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s onboard with a Thor Trilogy, so safe sailing ahead… maybe.
