Despite a decidedly lukewarm response (in normal box office terms, very positive) for Pixar’s new movie, Brave, it’s certainly cleaned up at the box office. The Scottish-based Pixar movie scooped up an impressive $66M in its domestic opening weekend, (with $24.5M on Friday and $23.5M on Saturday), securing the third-best opening weekend of the year so far, behind The Hunger Games and The Avengers. Expect Brave to go on to becoming another $500M+ hit for Pixar.
Speaking of The Avengers, it’s still in the top 10 for box office takings, with $598.3M domestically and an eye-popping $837M overseas. It’s made $1.436M worldwide, and sits comfortably as the third highest-grossing movie of all time, and should be able to hit $600M domestically next weekend.
It’s not all sunshine in Hollywood, though, as period horror actioner Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter debuted at #4, with a disappointing $16.5M in its opening weekend. Looks like Hollywood’s love affair with vampires is ending…
