With The Amazing Spider-Man cleaning up at the international box office, talk’s turning towards the inevitable sequel. The sequel to the Spidey reboot, currently under the title The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Wow, Sony, original), will be released in just under two years, with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek ’09, Fringe… and Transformers) called in to rewrite the script.
We’re not exactly sure as to when the sequel will be set (other than it won’t be set in the high school setting of the first movie), but producer Matt Tolmach confirmed that TASM2 won’t be set a long time after the first movie, to match Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield’s age: “Eventually, who knows? But the next movie will take place in relative proximity to this one. We have more business to do here [and now] with the character. The story, there’s a lot more to be told in this story, and this quest that he’s on. So there won’t be a huge time jump.”
Tolmach remained silent on the subject of villains for the sequel (cough, Green Goblin, cough), but hinted that Black Cat may just turn up in a sequel.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits cinemas on May 2, 2014.
