ROSENBAUM and SPACEY Give Their Views on EISENBERG as LEX LUTHOR

When Jesse Eisenberg was announced to the world as the new Lex Luthor in the (still) unnamed sequel to Man of Steel, the internet went crazy thoughtfully and carefully presented their critical objections to the casting choice.

They were not the only ones, though. Lex Luthor alums, Michael Rosenbaum and Kevin Spacey gave their thoughts about Eisenberg’s casting in two different interviews.

Michael Rosenbaum, the actor viewed by many to have played the definitive on-screen version of Lex Luthor said,

“First off, I think he’s a really good actor. I don’t think he needs any advice from me, he’ll do his homework. Do it your way. I’m sure Zack [Snyder] has an idea. He cast you for reason. Jesse’s a good actor. He’ll do it his own way and that’s the best way. If you can do it your way, if you succeed or fail, you succeed because you are being original. If you’re trying to emulate someone, you’ll always be compared. That’s why I didn’t want to be compared during Smallville. I didn’t watch any of Gene Hackman as Lex. He’ll be fantastic. Great actor, no problem with it.”

Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor.

In other news, Michael Rosenbaum also said in a statement that if given the choice of playing either of his DC Universe characters – The Flash and Lex Luthor – that he would definitely choose to play The Flash. He said “The Flash is kind of me and I’ve always had that [The Flash’s] temperance – the ability to make things better that they are. I think that’s my gift, honestly, is to entertain.”

Kevin Spacey, who played Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns said:

“I think Jesse Eisenberg is a remarkable actor. He’s just going to f*cking own it. I think it’s a great idea and I wish him the best with it.”

Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor.

I think that these positive statements show great support for Eisenberg as Lex but also great support for Eisenberg to make the character his own.

Who knows? Maybe Eisenberg will join the Secret Society of Lex Luthor Actors one day.

Now that we know what Michael Rosenbaum and Kevin Spacey think about Eisenberg, what do you think?
