IRON MAN 4 Is Totally, Definitely, Maybe Happening

Potentially massive news has been confirmed today on the Ellen Degeneres show regarding production on Iron Man 4. The breaking news was revealed by none other than Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr.

The Hollywood heavyweight was appearing on the Ellen Show to promote his new movie “The Judge” but as usually happens when RDJ puts in an appearance anywhere lately the talk inevitably resorts around to the man in the Iron Suit, Tony Stark.

Admittedly De Generes coerced the actor into an on the spot answer and pressed the subject by asking him if there were any plans for more Tony Stark adventures on the big screen. Downey Jr responded with.

I know there’s going to be more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best,We’re in the middle of negotiations, blah blah blah

When further pressed by the talk show host on whether that answer meant Yes Downey Jr responded with

Ok, Yes

This news would prove to be a huge turn around for the star if indeed RDJ wasn’t just telling Ellen what she and all of us wanted to hear. Although he didn’t go as far as to say he would star in the movie, it is a significant turnaround, as recently Downey Jr was on record as saying the following regarding his possible future playing the character.

To me, it comes down to what’s the half-life of people enjoying a character? It’s different on TV, where you expect the longevity over seasons while movies get a two- or three-year break,” Downey Jr. said in early October. “Marvel keeps stepping up its game, and I appreciate the way Kevin Feige and all the creatives there think. They are as in the creative wheelhouse as any great studio has been at any point. So it becomes a matter of, at what point do I cease to be an asset to what they’re doing, and at what point do I feel I am spending so much time either shooting or promoting these films that I’m not actually able to get off the beachhead and do the kind of other stuff that is good for all of us. Each one of those movies is spread over two years and some people fit other things in

Additionally, in September Robert Downey Jr also stated that there were no plans for Iron Man 4. Could it be therefore that the actor has been teasing us all along and negotiations were already under way?

It would certainly make sense for a fourth installment of the franchise, as well as being lucrative, as displayed by the fact that the Iron Man franchise has grossed $2.4 Billion worldwide at the box office.

It should be noted that RDJ also took part in an “Ask me anything” Q&A session on Reddit earlier today and again was posed the Iron Man question to which he teased.

Sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered

Was he perhaps hinting that Iron Man 4 is one of the yet unannounced Marvel movies on their slate?

We can only hope it is.
