New Report Makes SPIDER-MAN Returning To Marvel A Hell Of A Lot More Likely

If that headline didn’t make you nerdgasm all over the room, you’re probably dead inside. Comic Book Therapy have picked up on a new report from The Register says that Sony are considering a proposal from investor Daniel Loeb and his company Third Point to sell off some of their properties, including the Spider-Man and Resident Evil franchises. Excited yet?

Kazuo Hirai, an exec on the board at the company, says that the proposal is a cost-cutting scheme so that they can focus on their electronics division (with the PS4 being released this year). We’ve known for quite some time that their film department has been having some financial trouble and at one point they were considering axing the whole division.

Before you all write this off as merely fan-drivel, there’s a big chance this could happen. As I said above it would help cover expenses in their tech department and could potentially lead the way for more original franchises at the company. However, if this DOES end up happening I can see just Resident Evil being sold. Spidey is still a big money-maker for them with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 being released this time next year, and if I was on the Sony board I would definitely keep that franchise.

What do you think? Would you like to see Spider-Man join the Marvel Cinematic Universe? If so, how would you want them to go about it? Share your thoughts below.
