Main Villain in THOR : THE DARK WORLD Will Look Like a Giant Molten Lava Minotaur

I may not be the most authoritative scholar on Norse Mythology, but I don’t remember any volcano-dipped minotaur’s in either of the Eddas. Of course the Marvel based Thor can take a few leaps away from the original Scandinavian inspiration (like changing the classic Thunderer into a Blond lady’s man), but I didn’t expect them to dive so deeply into Balrog territory in the upcoming sequel THOR : THE DARK WORLD.

Hi, my name is Durin’s Bane, and I’d like to audition for the part of Algrim

Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play Algrim/Kurse  (the dark elf warrior who trips into a steaming pot of lava and returns as a giant pain in the ass) and in a recent interview he described the aesthetics of his character:

“It’s an amalgamation of a bull and a lava-like creature. He has very animalistic tendencies but with this insatiable and unstoppable power. As an actor, that’s one of the hardest things to embody. You have to realize you are probably the most powerful thing you could imagine. And you have to be that. You can’t pretend, so that when you face Thor, it’s real.”

Shit sounds awesome. As long as Thor has an imposing foe to bash with his Uru enchanted hammer, I’ll leave theatres completely satisfied. Let’s just hope Director Alan Taylor hasn’t criminally underpowered the God of Thunder, though, as Joss Whedon did in THE AVENGERS.
