Jurassic World is “Insane!”

Jurassic World is “Insane”

The definition of “insanity” is “repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results” and according to a recent MTV News interview given by Chris Pratt, who will be playing Starlord in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and who will also be starring along side Bryce Dallas Howard, Irrfan Khan, and Jake Johnson in the highly anticipated sequel to the strongly criticized Jurassic Park III, Jurassic World, InGen seems to be doing just that. This time around, fans were hoping to relive the fantasy thrill ride that was the first Jurassic Park, only with better effects and a good story that would tie all loose ends from the previous let downs and allow the franchise to transition smoothly into a new set of films without having to reboot the original film and although some companies have found a good way to remake their pictures without technically remaking the same movie, through time traveling which works for Star Trek and X-Men, but won’t really pan out for Jurassic Park.

In the interview, Chris Pratt states…

“What I liked about it is that it answers the question of, ‘Why would they do that?’ How do you suspend disbelief to be like, ‘Oh, yes! Let’s make this mistake again! We haven’t learned our lesson about dinosaurs. We should definitely live with them and see how that works out!” After three tries, they answer the question really well through the script. Colin did a great job of writing it and justifying it.”

What works about this is we, as a people, are prone to insanity, in that most of us usually repeat the same mistakes and subconsciously expect the outcomes to be different, so it would be understandable that someone would be like, “Ok we didn’t have the right tech before, but it’s been years since we messed up, but we have what it takes now to fix this and let people have fun seeing these genetically altered monsters and be safe!” But before those errors are made again I hope they go back to the beginning and explain what steps the company took to guarantee the safety of its guests this time around and how they dealt with the dinosaurs that escaped the menacing island chain, Los Cinco Muertes, which are sure to be plaguing near by cities and towns. In the books, written by the late Michael Crichton, there were issues with the beginning stages of the Park’s production, in which dinosaurs had escaped the Park on cargo ships and made their way to the main land, Costa Rica, where they terrorized small villages. The culprits were probably Procompsognathus. This has never been mentioned in the films, however could be used to kick off Jurassic World.

Something else that needs to be addressed more clearly is how the “San Diego” incident was really handled as well as the events of the 3rd JP. Did the Kirby family face prison time for, not only kidnapping, but trespassing on restricted property and being responsible for the murders of 3 people? Answering these questions and treating them seriously would not only redeem the lame plot of the JP3, but also show the audience that real world consequences apply to the characters of these movies, and although the Kirby family seemed to have “lived happily ever after” they actually did not and had to pay the price for breaking the law, as InGen will also have to do for breaking the laws of nature, again!

It’s fine that Universal wants to go back to basics by introducing a new park, however, what’s been working good for films lately is the attention to realism movies have been displaying like in Ironman, Amazing Spiderman, and the Nolanverse Batman series. I hope Colin Trevorrow and the people at Universal are taking Jurassic World seriously and not just trying to cash in on a fading franchise. Jurassic Park 1 & 2 were awesome, and aside from the plot, JP3 was somewhat entertaining especially with the amazing effects that went into the creation of the Dino’s, however audiences are ready to fall in love again with movies, especially with many classics coming back to the silver screen, like Star Wars, and Jurassic Park is one of them that I don’t want to see ruined so bad that a few years later Jurassic Park :The Remake is being released. I have faith as long as they still take elements from both of the novels that haven’t been used yet and they tie loose ends explaining what happen to our previous heroes.

What are you hoping to get out of Jurassic World? Do find it believable that anyone would want to even consider trying to reopen the park after what happened before? Leave your thoughts & opinions in the comments bellow! Find the full interview with Chris Pratt here.
