Disney is really trying to push a new franchise down our throats with their newest film John Carter of Mars. Directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton, the film is an adaptation of the early 20th century British novel which later spawned a series of pulp spin-offs. The character’s popularity inevitably died during the comic book recession of the 1950’s, but Disney’s hoping to resurrect his appeal.

Early buzz surrounding the film is a resounding “meh” and the House of Mouse has recently revealed that the film will need to recoup over $600 million at the box office to warrant a sequel. I’m not sure how Disney intends to achieve that lofty goal, but hopefully the flick is better at a full screening.
