While at the premiere of Thor: The Dark World, director James Gunn opened up CraveOnline about Thanos role in Guardians of the Galaxy. We all saw the purple tyrant grin at the end of The Avengers, but he’s not the central villain of their sequel (that’s reserved for Ultron) or the upcoming space-adventure. According to Gunn, however, he does plays a key role.

“Thanos is a character in our movie. He works with Ronan. In my movie Ronan works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in [the] film.”

Lee Pace, once a contender for the lead Guardians role of Star-Lord, is already confirmed to play Ronan the Accuser. Unfortunately there hasn’t been any word about who’s going to play Thanos just yet. No doubt Hollywood will pick a big name to voice one of the Marvel Universe’s biggest villains. I’d heard rumors that actor Benicio Del Toro would play the role but there’s been no confirmation. If not him, I personally recommend someone like Keith David, Vin Diesel, or Ving Rhames. Hell, even Morgan Freeman could voice him if he practiced sounding evil (he’s already played God, why not this?).

What do you think of Ronan the Accuser as a central villain? Who do you think should play Thanos?
