Is Spider-Man in The Avengers?

There’s been a lot of buzz going around the web the past few days about the possible appearance of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in The Avengers movie. While this certainly has the foul smell of rumor all over it…I decided to delve a little deeper into the frenzy and see if I could get any semblance of truth.

Well, it looks like the whole thing started in an interview with Jenny Agutter, of An American Werewolf in London fame. She’ll be appearing in Joss Whedon’s Avengers, and when asked about filming on set, she said…

“I’m sworn to secrecy. I wasn’t allowed a script until I got there, and when I did I felt like a complete child being on big sets and a huge parking lot full of Winnebagos.”

When the interviewer pried a bit more, Agutter would only mention the Winnebagos, revealing that there was one for each of the Avengers. So there was one for Thor, Iron Man, and even Spider-Man. Wait!?!? What!??!?!? There’s one for Spider-Man? Why would there be a trailer for Spidey unless he’s actually in the movie?

This is either a really awesome spoiler, or a mis-statement that we’ve taken out of proportion. What do you guys think?
