I Called It! APOCALYPSE Seems To Be In DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Now, I don’t want to brag too much about my fanboy intuition, because that would be resoundingly unflattering, so let me just say this quickly, politely… “I FUCKING CALLED IT!”

If you’ll remember, 4 weeks ago we brought you new that Peter Dinklage would play one of the lead baddies in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Well, around that time, I had a wayward, nagging thought… What if Bryan Singer wants to create his own Avengers-style universe? He’s said as much in interviews past, so how could he provide a convincing villain, one who’d unite all of the disparate cast of muties from the hodgepodge of flicks (referring to the original X-Men trilogy, Wolverine‘s spin-offs, and First Class… of course).

Well, in a recent interview with our friends at Bleeding Cool, Bryan Singer kind, sorta insinuated that the big blue baddie known as Apocalypse will be involved in DOTP.

Check out this snippet:

On hearing the name Apocalypse, Singer’s face changed immediately but there was no point being timid. Might as well plough ahead with the question. Would he even consider using Apocalypse in the movies? How about in Days of Future Past?

His nervous answer:

I can’t tell you…

That was most interesting. So I leapt forward and asked if realising the character of Apocalypse would require performance capture.

And now Singer looked even more nervous.

This is how it gets started, when somebody starts piecing the little bits together…

The non-verbal communication was even more compelling than what Singer was saying. If I had to bet on it, I would – we’ll be seeing Apocalypse in Days of Future Past, and he’s probably going to be a performance capture character.

And BOOM goes the dynamite. (Sorry for the lame reference).

As I’ve said before, I don’t imagine they’ll use Apocalypse as the main baddie in this flick, since Sentinels and their creator Bolivar Trask provide a satisfying antagonist. BUT… I think the creepy, smiling bastard (his smirk gives even Joker a run for his money) will act as the Thanos of Fox’s X-Men universe. He’ll instigate the conflict, and when this small plot in DOTP is eventually thwarted by Wolvie and friends, Big A will gather his forces for an all out assault in the sequel. AGE OF APOCALYPSE anyone?

While Singer’s body language may be enough to justify a small smidgen of our speculation, I obviously can’t convincingly claim to have any knowledge of the film’s actual plot. This is just my gut, fanboy feeling.

Although, before I wander off to the wonderful realm of COD and its delightful racist pre-pubes, I should mention that Mark Miller is technically the Godfather of the Fox Cinematic Universe (which, besides the X-Men, includes the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot). Both he and Singer have voiced their interest in creating their own intertwined universe, akin to Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon’s MCU. If an AGE OF APOCALYPSE movie is actually in the works, would it unite those two franchises? He’s the only viable antagonist for such an ambitious undertaking, greater than even Galactus (as much as I love the big purple planet eater, he doesn’t translate to film well).

Sound off with your fanboy opinions below!  Can’t wait to hear what you think.

If only they could borrow a few characters from Feige…
