First Trailer For THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Hits!

Yesterday we brought you the first poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Today, we bring you the trailer. I have to say, I was quite worried about what this trailer would be like – An Unexpected Journey was pretty disappointing for me, and I’d hate it if the sequel was just as light-hearted and silly. Thankfully just two minutes of footage has put those fears to rest. Sorry about the subtitles, but you can watch it below!

Yeah, yeah, it’s not perfect (is it just me, or does Legolas look like Joffrey from Game of Thrones!?)but it looks suitably epic and visually gorgeous. One of my complaints about the first instalment was the stunning New Zealand backdrops were replaced in some shots with CGI versions of those backdrops, which left me thinking WTF. Anyway, I’m not the first to point this out but Smaug doesn’t look too good. Granted, we haven’t seen his full body yet but it looks so fake it’s unreal.
