Edgar Wright Teases Scott Lang’s Role in ‘Ant-Man’

Any good director knows that before filming a movie, it’s best to research the subject to get a firm grasp of it. Apparently director Edgar Wright has been doing that while filming his own entry for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man. There’s still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the upcoming film, and while Paul Rudd has been announced to star in the titular role as Hank Pym, it’s unclear if he’ll be the only version of Ant-Man, or whether Scott Lang will play an important part as well. Wright’s original intention was to show Pym’s background and history as the character, but have Lang take over for the bulk of the film.

Homework huh...? At least it's good reference material.

Wright’s latest tease suggests that Lang might actually be the main character after all. The director posted a still (shown above) from The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes episode ‘To Steal an Ant-Man’ on his blog with the simple caption: “Homework.” That episode is basically Lang’s origin story of how he steals Pym’s Ant-Man gear to raise money to save his daughter Cassie. After helping him save her, Pym (who recently retired from the Avengers) gave Lang his blessing to be the new Ant-Man.

If we’re truly meant to look into the post, that episode may be converted into a 90 minute movie. If so, then it’s looking fairly likely that the film is going to be based around Lang’s theft of the Ant-Man tech with Pym being a secondary character. At the very least, the heist element described by Kevin Feige a while back suggests that the eventually reformed thief will play some kind of role. Then again, maybe Wright just saw that episode and decided to mess with the fans a little. Only time will tell…

Do you like the sound of Wright’s Ant-Man heist movie? Which version of the character would you prefer to see moving forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Drop a comment and let us know!
