Another Fan-Favourite Character is in STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE

Buried in the recent announcement that Phil Lord and Chris Miller would direct a young Han Solo spin-off movie was a little bit of news that Darth Vader will be making an appearance in Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. Many bemoaned the rumour, wanting the spin-off films to cover new territory rather than old, however I think it makes perfect sense for the character to appear in a movie about stealing the Death Star plans. If you were one of those who got a little annoyed about the news, then click off now because I’m about to really piss you off.

Bloody Disgusting (via Screen Gonzo) has an exclusive regarding the villains of the movie. They reveal that Ben Mendehlson’s character is a new Moff (like Grand Moff Tarkin in A New Hope) and he will be the main villain, but when the plans are stolen a few familiar faces are roped in by the Empire to help get them back…

Ben Mendelsohn’s new Moff character is indeed the big baddie of Rogue One. The other main villains of the piece are bounty hunters hired by the Moff to quietly retrieve the stolen Death Star plans at all costs. Vader factors in once he realizes that the plans have been stolen, so he joins the hunt in a supporting role and is none too pleased.

These bounty hunters include Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar, Zuckuss & 4LOM, IG-88, and Cad Bane, who is from ‘Clone Wars’ and is making his live action debut.

There might some new ones as well, but that’s the core group. So Fett will absolutely appear on screen again in a semi-main role before his solo film.

BOBA FETT!!!

This film is clearly going to feel right at home in the Original Trilogy-era with all these guys popping up. Yeah, we don’t NEED Boba Fett, but it’s someone recognisable and he will serve an important role. You may think that he’s this massive character in the franchise but in the eyes of the public most have probably forgotten who he is already. We know that Josh Trank’s abandoned Anthology film was most certainly a Fett spin-off – not the Han Solo one now in development – so while Disney ponders what to do with that his appearance here can serve as a reminder to audiences so they get all pumped up for his solo movie.

Alongside that, the site also says that Gareth Edwards and co have been considering adding a Wookie bounty hunter to the mix. Crazy, right?

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is out December 16th 2016.
