1990 Captain America Film to Get Blu-ray Release!

Obviously, the recent Captain America: The First Avenger film is probably common knowledge to most, if not all, comic fans. But I bet you young’ns don’t know that the recent film was actually predated by over 20 years! Yup, back in 1990, there was another Captain America film. It was pretty bad, so bad that for years, Marvel Comic refused to acknowledge it’s very existence!

Well, after years of waiting, fans (?) of the film can finally watch the film on Blu-ray, and view it in pristine widescreen HD. The Blu-Ray, titled Captain America: Collector’s Edition, will feature an all new interview with Albert Pyun (the director) and Matt Salinger (the actor who plays Steve Rogers).

Here is the official summary:

“Long ago, Steve Rogers (Matt Salinger) was a true American hero, a brave super soldier created by scientists to help the Allied Forces fight for freedom in World War II. But during a battle with the sinister Red Skull (Scott Paulin), he was lost, entombed in ice. Decades later, his body has been found and revived and Steve must again don the mantle of Captain America to help save the President of the United States (Ronny Cox) — and the world — from his arch-nemesis once and for all.”

Captain America was released in UK theaters in December 1990, and was later released in US theaters in July 1992. The film received poor reception, garnering an “F” from Entertainment Weekly, and only having a 11% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film starred Matt Salinger, Ronny Cox, and Scott Paulin. The Blu-ray, which is being released by Shout! Factory, has a street date of May 21.
