Young Justice: Invasion “War” Review

This morning’s episode of Young Justice: Invasion, “War“, introduced fan-favorite villain Mongul. But was the rest of the episode as exciting? SPOILERS AHEAD!

In today’s episode, the Justice League, who are still on trial after being accused of causing destruction in various planets (they were under the mind-control of Vandal Savage) are being watched by the war-lord Mongul (Keith David), who, after hearing about how the Reach and Earth have formed an alliance, heads to Earth onboard his personal planet, War World. He plans to blow Earth up, because the Reach could pose a threat to his plan of galactic domination.

On Earth, the team decides to take the fight to Mongul. So, they infiltrate War World, split up to complete various tasks, and basically do everything they can to save the planet. Meanwhile, the Reach decide to take their own plan of action….

At this point in the game, what more can I say? The show has been of the highest quality almost every single week. This one is no exception. I loved the team’s plan to defeat Mongul and save Earth. They don’t dilly-dally, they go straight in. And characters like Dr. Fate get their time to shine too.

Mongul makes for a cool villain. As powerful as Superman, with a planet-busting….planet, and some very good dialogue. The scene where he beats down Superboy (Nolan North), Wonder Girl (Mae Whitman), Arsenal (Crispin Freeman) , and Wolf is quick, efficient, and brutal. He takes down the team even worse then Black Beetle did, and it is cool and scary to see. Mongul is a beast, and Keith David does a very commendable job voicing him.

The action scenes are all done well, the animation never falters, and at this point, the writers could probably whip out the dialogue in their sleep. I also like how the team beat Mongul in the end; it made sense. And the ending is epic.

My only complaint is a sub-plot revolving around Mal Duncan (Kevin Michael Richardson) and Bumblebee (Masasa Moyo); it isn’t interesting, and just doesn’t contribute much at all. Still, otherwise, I can’t fault this episode at all. And I can’t wait for next week.
