YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION “Summit” Review

The penultimate episode of Young Justice: Invasion left me almost speechless at the end. It was amazing. I almost wish I could end the review like that, but I guess that wouldn’t be fair to the reader, so it is time to elaborate. Spoilers ahead!

In this episode, The Light calls a summit meeting with the Reach to discuss plans and such. And then everything hits the fan all at once in glorious fashion! There is a ton of stuff happening here, and every bit of it was awesome.

Ra’s al Ghul (Oded Fehr) figures out that Artemis (Stephanie Lemelin) is a spy, also confirming that Aqualad (Khary Payton) is a traitor, which is horrifying news for Black Manta (also Khary Payton). Aqualad also tells the Reach that the Light has been using them, even going so far as to neutralize the Reach drinks (the Light is awesome!).

And then…all heck breaks loose as the team breaks in the secret lair, and the epic battle starts. The whole thing is wondrous, and I’m not sure where to begin. Kid Flash (Jason Spisak) and Impulse (Jason Marsden) have an awesome conversation as they take down The Brain. Kid Flash and Artemis also have some lines that should make fans of the pairing very happy.

Nightwing (Jesse McCartney) finally gets to fight, and shows why he is a beast in hand-to-hand, Miss Martian (Danica McKellar) gets one really hardcore scene, Black Beetle (Kevin Grevioux) owns Ra’s, and then betrays the Reach ambassador, and Klarion returns. With a flaming snake. Yeah.

The Light are EPIC

And it is all so EPIC! I loved every moment of it.

With that said, I suppose I had some mild complaints, kinda. Aqualad and Black Manta finally have their showdown….and its over in under a minute. Blue Beetle and Black Beetle don’t have their rematch, Green Beetle is strangely absent, and I wish that some characters (Batgirl, Wonder Girl) would get some lines.

But still. Oh my, that was epic and awesome. Man, next week’s series finale will have a hrd time topping this! Cartoon Network, I cannot believe you canned this. Ugh. I hope Greg Weisman gets a chance to continue this universe one day.
