Will JESSE EISENBERG’S LEX LUTHOR Have Hair?

Damn straight.

As always, this intrepid reporter always brings you the very finest in journalistic inquiry. Today a story from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Warner Bros. initially “toyed” with casting an older and more veteran actor to play the role of resident megalomaniac and business entrepreneur, Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film but passed on the idea because they wanted a younger and (what this reporter thinks) a more “hip” Lex Luthor to lure in the kids to the film. I hear that kids like powerful businessmen with an obsession with superheroes.

The Hollywood Reporter also reports that Jesse Eisenberg wasn’t actually the studio’s option to play the apparently 30-year-old Lex. Girls’ Adam Driver had scheduling conflicts while Joaquin Phoenix (an actor previously rumored to have been cast in the role) had passed.

The fact that they want to cast a young actor in the role is primarily because they want to align Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent and Lex Luthor together as contemporaries who are close enough in age to have possibly grown up together. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise since more than a few recent reinterpretations and re-imaginings of the Man of Steel depicted his arch-nemesis as a childhood best friend. Most notably, the Smallville television show, in addition to Mark Waid’s 2003 Superman: Birthright limited series from which Man of Steel heavily borrowed from.

But the most interesting part about the news is that director Zack Snyder is quoted as saying that Jesse Eisenberg will take the character in “some new and unexpected directions.” What does this mean you ask? Well, I think it’s obvious. This Lex Luthor is going to have hair. Why? Because what else could it be?*
