THE TERMINATOR: ENEMY OF MY ENEMY #1 Review

Does this comic book stay on target? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

In 1984, Kyle Reese protected Sarah Connor from a cyborg that would stop at nothing to terminate her. In 1985, Skynet targets a scientist whose discoveries threaten its future, but this time there is no resistance fighter sent back to face it! With only enemies around her, what chance does Elise Fong stand against the perfect killing machine?

Terminator-Enemy of My Enemy 1_CAs a boy who crept into his parents room while they watched a VHS copy of the original film on their thirteen inch, I can honestly say I have a soft spot for these killers and their temporal placement shenanigans. There’s something awesome about a good chase, especially one that features a creature that’s near unstoppable. It’s almost always engrossing and this creative team grasps that concept while setting the stage for something that’s clearly their own take.

Dan Jolley impressed me with what felt like a simple but competent beginning. Unlike Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle, this story focuses in on the 1984 flick as it embodies the look and feel all too familiar to its fans. It’s not something that’s attempting to complete the saga but rather give us an infinity adventure that’s more akin to the old-school Terminator books. The largest flaw in the romp is the fact that things feel a bit rushed but somehow the author holds on and it all comes together in a proper cliffhanger.

The art by Jamal Igle is simple and to the point, which is exactly what a story revolving around a time traveling killer needs. He injects just enough of the period into the piece without sacrificing the fact that this is a modern interpretation of an already passed era. It’s an homage in the best sense of the world with lavish colors provided with precision by the talented Ray Snyder. In short: it’s a more that compelling visual barrage.

The Terminator: Enemy of my Enemy #1 is a great start to what should be a stellar mini-series that comes recommended. Until the next outing stay frosty.
