Supreme #68 Review

Sins come back to haunt the Mean Supreme but are they anywhere near enough to stop his reign?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

“The KHROMIUM Age”

His father was one of Supreme’s greatest foes. Now he seeks vengeance–and he has the power to get it! Face-to-face with the Ivory Icon on a far off world KHROMIUM will have his revenge–or die trying! Meanwhile, Ethan Crane and the former Supremouse Squeak form an uneasy alliance with the one being that might help restore their missing powers: Darius Duck! A shocker!

With the world in the grip of this ruthless hero two things are happening, the former members of the Supremacy are trying to figure out a way to make things right no matter what the cost while Khromium is out for revenge.  In short, this is a fairly straight forward romp that seems to stand proudly as a proverbial blast from the past while simultaneously entertaining its audience.

The script by Erik Larsen exudes a structure where the narrative belies a less than serious nature while offering a somewhat engaging adventure in its  own right.  He absolutely nails the characterizations inherent in this property while smartly crafting some complicated sequences that propel the saga toward this issue’s surefire finish.  The end result is a thrilling read that offers a very joyful return to simpler times, and as long as you know exactly what kind of superbly corny journey you’re in for then you’ll no doubt find something to like about this release.

Beyond the author duties Erik Larsen lends his pencil and quirky style to this rather epic tale.  He continues to yield a kinetic but fluid art design that will get fans instantly engaged as they look on the latest iteration of this franchise. Yes there are moments where his intentional deformities can be a bit of a distraction but more often than not I found them to be a more than welcome companion for this simple but engaging arc.

Supreme #68 is a good comic book that’s sure to hold the attention of fans. Recommended.
