Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi — Force War #3 Review

Star Wars-Dawn of the Jedi Banner

Is there enough juice left in this time period to garner your attention? Or has this become an epic that’s lost its muster? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

Je’daii generals Daegen Lok and Xesh are captured by Xesh’s former Rakatan masters, and Xesh learns the truth behind his arrival on Tython. Half-mad with regret, he is forced to give the invaders the knowledge they need to defeat Xesh’s Je’daii friends—and enslave the entire planet!

Star Wars-Dawn of the Jedi — Force War 3_CWhen it comes to comic book reviews on UTF, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to delve into Star Wars lore. And I have to say that without a doubt this has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of that ever-expanding universe. The creative team hits it out of the park with a release the unleashes betrayals that lead toward some dire intersections. So sit back and get ready, because the war rages on!

The script is thick and brooding, as it carries the weight of a massive conflict on its shoulders. And to be honest I could not imagine a better architect behind this yarn than the one and only, John Ostrander. He simply does a marvelous job capturing the ancient ways of the Force without cheapening the innate conflict between the light and dark. That right there makes the whole thing a thematic wonder, as we see our heroes struggle not to lose themselves in the pleasure of seeing their enemies fall before them.

Beyond the text we’re treated to some breathtaking visuals by Jan Duursema. The level of depth and realism offered here certainly kept me engaged, and the dynamic elements that came into the panel design caught my eye from the first page to the issue’s final panel. To be truthful I have literally no complaints here, because after I finished reading I went back and just focused in on some of the more uncanny battle renditions.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi — Force War #3 with a quality team at its back earns gleeful praise and strong recognition as it comes highly recommended.
