Snyder Announces Year Zero

DC Comics announced that Scott Snyder’s next major Batman story arc will be called The Year Zero and will explore Batman’s early days. Snyder’s story will not “tread on” Frank Miller’s beloved Batman: Year One story, but will instead on the nuts and bolts of Batman’s early days like building the cave and fighting his first super-villain. The coolest part is that the story itself will span eleven issues, meaning that Year Zero will take almost a year to unfold.

Newsarama is already speculating that the series will feature a confrontation between a young Batman and the Riddler. I hope that this isn’t the case and that Snyder instead takes the opportunity to finally tackle Ras Al Ghul, especially if he is going to let the action unfold over eleven issues. Sadly, Newsarama’s case for a Riddler confrontation is fairly solid, with Snyder himself saying 2013 will be the year of the Riddler. 2013 is shaping up to be a big year for Batman and Snyder with launch of Jae Lee and Greg Pak’s Batman/Superman series (which will also be about Batman’s early days) and Snyder’s Superman Unchained with Jim Lee.
