Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye #30 Review

Transformers_More Than Meets The Eye 30 variantTransformers: More Than Meets The Eye #30 is an issue with plenty of intrigue and suspense. It’s an issue that raises many more questions than it does answers – a perfect way grab attention and jump into a new arc.

The official description from IDW:

EVACUATION! Is it possible for a starship to object to its captain? That’s what the AUTOBOTS are asking MEGATRON as the Lost Light becomes the most dangerous place in the universe!

Last issue set the story up and this issue hastily builds upon it. Between the flashbacks to Cybertron and the current storyline there is a lot to take in, making More Than Meets The Eye #30 very good value for money in. However, at the same time, I think the title is biting off more than it can chew. Some of last month’s plot, such as the ‘ghost’, have been put on the back burner. I’m sure its all related but the whole picture is too big to fit into a monthly issue right now, or at least that’s how it seems.

In terms of reading, it’s nice to say James Roberts doing what he does best. Roberts understands character and many of the Lost Light crew have their own distinct personalities that come across very clearly. The dynamic between Megatron and Rodimus is a clear example, while the dialogue is also used to subtly show how certain Autobots are coping after recent or major events in the titles run. It’s this consideration and continuity that rewards the longtime readers.

Visually, this issue looks about as good as any other. That said, Alex Milne’s art is particularly enjoyable, offering poses and expressions that add much of More Than Meet’s The Eye‘s charm. Milne’s knack for robot figures makes this title, while Joana Lafuente’s rich diversity of colors keeps each page fresh.

In summary, this is a fantastic issue that has a lot to offer. Like I said, it does feel as if a few elements hit the cutting room floor but More Than Meets The Eye #30 succeeds in leaving readers wanting more.
