The official description from Dark Horse:

With Sam being targeted by a deadly enemy, it’s a race against time to find out who’s next. Can Lara save her friends and find out the truth of what’s happening around her?

* The official continuation of Lara Croft’s story!

* The Tomb Raider video game sold over 3.5 million copies in 2013!

Tomb Raider 5_Preview PageCourtesy of this creative team our adventurer is faced with a dynamic epilogue. And the results therein are impressive as we get to see reflections on her experiences on Yamatai while witnessing how it shaped and fortified her. In other words: prepare for awesomeness as fans look on at the actions of a woman whom, in the original iteration, eventually had a T-Rex head mounted on her wall.

Gail Simone pens the script and the author does a fabulous job addressing its central needs. The narrative calls for an introspection of Lara Croft via her own voice while the plot begs for more details. As it evolves I have to say I’m fairly excited to see what these people that worship the Solarii have in store, especially after that cliffhanger. Though I’ll be honest if you think about it: the fact that there’s another group deemed unworthy that’s following the exploits of the villains from the game it does feel rather thin.

Beyond the realm of the written word exists the illustrations handed in by Nicolás Daniel Selma. The first thing to note is that the visual style is clean and crisp which for a property that took to realistic and dirty in 2013 might seem odd. However I would state that in any attempt to adapt a franchise there are elements that get shifted in translation so let me reassure fanboys and fangirls that the pencil strokes are top notch especially with the added colors done by Michael Atiyeh.

Tomb Raider #5 continues the exploits of our young heroine while feeling like an honest extension for the video game series. So without a doubt it easily comes recommended.
