Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #8 Review

Do fans really need this tie-in book or can they simply avoid it? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

It’s monkey vs. rat as Monkey Brains squares off against the Rat King! The former colleagues have gone through big changes since they last met, but bad blood remains! With the Turtles caught in the middle, the action is bound to get hairy!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures 6_Preview Page 1It’s very simple at this point, you’re going to dig this comic if you meet two requirements. Firstly, if you currently watch the television show on Nickelodeon. Secondly, if you’re a die-hard fan who just can’t get enough of these Heroes in a Half-Shell. I happen to fall into one of those categories as I continually dip my toe into the other, especially as this creative team makes a strong case as to why this title deserves an audience.

Kenny Byerly pens the script and I have to say the text flows smoothly. He captures the personality of each character with ease as we’re all treated with a by the numbers adventure that successfully entertains. It’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination but the outing sticks to familiar territory and antics. So in short: if you’re engaged by the currently running show than you’re bound to enjoy what you find within the confines of this literary romp.

Much like the written word the art by Dario Brizuela sticks close to the source material. The over the top reactions and international influences show in the piece. As this illustrator captures the essence of the small screen while adapting it’s very familiar designs to the comic page. It’s entertaining to see and as you factor in the colors done by Heather Breckel the entire package quickly evolves into a worthwhile visual yarn all in its own right.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #8 is not something that changes the game but continues to play along. If you don’t like what it’s based on than I doubt it makes much of a case for you to give it another look. Still it comes recommended.
