Powerpuff Girls #6 Review

Can these little girls save the day again? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

Cower in fear citizens of Townsville, for I, MOJO JOJO have RETURNED! Not even your Previews solicitation is safe from my influence, for I am all-powerful and supremely cunning. You have been chosen to bare witness to the ultimate destruction of Townsville – for such is my plan to demolish this wretched city once and for all, along with those annoying Powerpuff Girls! Then NO ONE will be able to stop MOJO JOJO from RULING THE WORLD!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Powerpuff Girls 6_Preview Page 1The first arc wraps up and can I just say I’m eternally grateful to have Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup back in action. I don’t care that I’m in my twenties, I grew up watching this show! And to see it go on in all its two dimensional glory within this comic is a joy. Add in a creative team that knows what they’re doing and it makes everything nice!

Troy Little takes on the script once again, giving each character their moment to shine as this outlandish but familiar plot plays out. There’s no depth to be found here, so if you’re looking for a text that delves into the serious underbelly of a fondly remembered franchise than you’re bound to be disappointed. But if you’re seeking a tale that exploits all the classic mechanics than you’ve come to the right place. In short: it doesn’t forge new ground but it will leave you smiling.

Now the visualizations found here are not edgy or different than what you’d expect. Troy Little moves on from the text to embrace the quirky style that made the show so successful in the first place. Ignoring the current attempt at a revamp we get the classic designs and trust me they still look great. Add in the colors by Jeremy Colwell and you end up with a perfect transition from small screen to tiny panel.

Powerpuff Girls #6 is a fun comic from start to finish. It’s not thought provoking and it doesn’t need to be as it comes recommended.
