Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #2 Review

Is the Ultimate Peter Parker really back from the dead or is this just some trick? Read on to find out.

The official description from Marvel:

PART TWO OF THE BIGGEST SPIDER-MAN STORY OF THE YEAR “REVIVAL”
• After the mind-blowing reveal at the end of the first issue, miles life will NEVER be the same again.
• With SHIELD gone, the biggest villain in SPIDER-MAN history is out and nothing can stop him. • Miles has made a huge choice about the woman he loves. Will he live to regret it?

Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man #2 variantMiles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man got off to a sensational start with Peter Parker’s appearance at the end bringing up a lot of questions. Now the natural solution to this is that this is a clone and this issue definitely runs with that idea. It is however the over the top way that the story highlights this that makes me feel that it’s may be a little too obvious and something else entirely is behind this Peter.

Brian Michael Bendis continues right from where the last issue left off with Miles’ shock adding a lot of tension to this encounter. Bendis also did a good job of adding aggression and energy through Peter’s reactions with the uncharacteristic tone solidifying the theory that this isn’t the same Peter. Bendis also teases at Norman Osborn’s future with the deadly foe utilising last issues explosive developments brilliantly. Despite this the issue did fly past rather quickly with it taking no time at all to read.

David Marquez has been a visual master over his Ultimate Spider-Man tenure as though his stint on All-New X-Men was just as amazing he’s always excelled slightly with Miles. His sensational layouts and dramatic character expressions add a lot of energy and excitement to this tale with the faded out backgrounds also adding impact. Marquez also does a spectacular job of giving tension and suspense during the Norman Osborn opening sequence as with it having no dialogue or narration whatsoever it relied on his art to make it stand out.

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man continues to tantalise and amaze as despite the overly quick pace dropping the grade slightly the mystery and suspense makes it a must read for Ultimate Spider-Man fans. Recommended.
