Justice League #35 Review

How will The Amazo Virus spread? Read on to find out.

The official description from DC Comics:

“THE AMAZO VIRUS” begins here! Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor join Wayne Enterprises and LexCorp – but why? And then, it’s HUMAN VS. SUPER-HUMAN when a dangerous and bizarre virus is unleashed upon the Justice League – but what exactly is the Amazo Virus? Who unleashed it and why? And what unforeseen effects will it have on the greatest heroes of the DC Universe? Plus, Batman and the League uncover Lex’s most guarded secret at Lexcorp Headquarters.

Justice League #35 previewJustice League has finally caught up with the rest of The New 52! Having been the series to launch this new universe (it was even out a week prior to any other) it was sad to see artist scheduling cause the series to fall behind the rest. What better time to catch-up as well, with The Amazo Virus story getting underway in this prelude issue.

Geoff Johns does a great job of setting up Justice League’s next big storyline, as though the Power Ring follow-up to Forever Evil was entertaining, the series really needs to go in a new direction. Following on from the events of last issue, Johns does a wonderful job showing how the Justice League plan on finding out Luthor’s dirty secrets. Despite this it’s the excitement near the end that really captivated me, with the suspense in the Amazo Virus’ release having me hooked for the next issue.

Being the last issue before Jason Fabok takes over art duties, it was nice to see both Doug Mahnke and Ivan Reis work on this issue, with the two artist delivering tremendous work. It is however Mahnke who handles the majority of the issue, with the most recent Justice League artist producing some of his best work. Despite this it was the smooth transition between the two artists that impressed me most, as though the action near the end was technically the most impressive visually, it was nice to see two styles merge well. Brad Anderson‘s colours probably had a helping hand in that, with his palette being very smooth and sleek throghout.

Justice League #35 does a spectacular job of leading us into The Amazo Virus. It also gives a brilliant continuation to the whole Justice League out to get Luthor angle, also being a nice send off for artists Ivan Reis and Doug Mahnke. Highly recommended.
