There’s a lot going on here, but as this release barrels forward is there enough to keep fans thoroughly engaged? Read on to find out.
The official description from Dark Horse:
All police resources are shifted to taking down Lobster Johnson after a vicious grenade fight in the NY streets. Meanwhile, bank vaults all around the city are exploding. Lobster knows it’s a trap, but justice is not afraid of traps.
Fight as you might, you need to understand: this is exactly the type of comic that deserves a spot on your pull-list. I know that if you’re anything like me you already have a bunch on your stack but when push comes to shove what this creative team turns in is a quality affair that exists perfectly within its genre. In short: go buy the back issues and enjoy this absolutely thrilling volume.
Mike Mignola and John Arcudi bring about a believable tale without taking away from the real world implications of a vigilante like this. There’s a moral quandary and I have to say both authors do a solid job using the Chief of Police to not only present it but argue the merits behind his perspective. In a moment of weakness some might even question their own standing on our hero. Beyond that the dialogue keeps the growing tale engaging as the criminal element ups their game in a bold stroke.
The art by Tonci Zonjic is superb. Right from the first page onward the talent perfectly captures the essence of the character, by crafting a moody but minimalist array of designs. It’s a wonderful display that’s made even more engaging when the colors by Dave Stewart get into the action without missing a beat. To sum it up: this is a striking visual component that uplifts the text and helps it birth a potent release.
Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster #3 has to be one of my favorites this week. I recommend it to any of my fellow fanboys and fangirls because even if you’re barely familiar with it there’s enough here to get you engaged. Recommended.
