Sally of The Wastelands #4 Review

Has Sally really found paradise? Read on to find out.

The official description from Titan:

Victor Gischler (X-Men, Angel & Faith, Noir) Tazio Bettin’s trigger-happy heroine reaches the climax of her post-apocalyptic pursuit in this epic penultimate issue.

New Orleans ain’t what it used to be… Long gone are the jazz bands, boutiques and Mardi Gras mayhem, leaving only rubble and mutants in their wake. With their goal in sight, Sally and her crew are gonna need a little more than luck if they’re hoping to navigate the city in one piece. Better get those guns loaded, ladies!

SALLY4.jpg.size-600Sally of the Wastelands reaches its penultimate issue, with Sally’s post-apocalyptic battle getting even more gruesome than before. Having ended in an extremely weird fashion I was curious as to how the events of this issue would pan out, and I have to say it’s definitely exceeded my expectation. Yes there are a few parts that are a little too weird, but the overall tension, and intensity of this issue really allowed it to stand out as the best in the series to date.

Victor Gishler has done a wonderful job of creating a fun, exciting series, as though Sally of the Wastelands has been far from perfect, sporting some rather unimpressive developments, the series as a whole has been something fun and different. Taking things up a gear, Gischler doesn’t mess around, as though we still get fun, the intensity makes for some very suspenseful moments. Gishler also proves that as we come closer to the end, things won’t be plain sailing for the group, with there being some very sketchy moments for them.

Tazio Bettin has done a magnificent job of the artwork throughout this series, and that doesn’t change here. There may have been some flat facial expression, with the odd panel looking a little awkward, but this in no way overshadowed the magnificent artwork that Bettin produced throughout. What really impresses about the art has to be the gore, as given the explosive nature of events it was nice to see eccentric bloodshed, with it only adding to the intensity.

Sally of the Wastelands #4 is yet another amazing entry in this quirky series, setting up the final chapter perfectly. Yes it may be a little too crazy at times, and yet some aspects come a little too sudden, but it’s this that makes this series all the more fun. Recommended.
